I love working with Christian authors. Whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, God’s love woven through the threads of a story offers encouragement and hope that cannot be found elsewhere.

And as Christians, we have a responsibility to convey our message in a way that honors the Lord. That means developing our craft, investing in the gifts and talents God has given us, and growing in our abilities. But we don’t have to do it alone.
There are great training courses and resources available for Christian authors, and I want to share a few of them with you today. So, grab a coffee and a comfy chair. Let’s dig in!

Writing and Motherhood
This one, in particular, touches my heart. I’m a busy mom, and I struggle to balance the mission of raising kids with the calling to write and edit. If you’re a mom too, this resource might be just what you need. Writing with Grace is a website by author and speaker Ann Swindell focused on Christ-centered courses for authors who want to develop their voice, writing craft, and technical abilities.

Developed after overcoming her own struggles with writing and motherhood, Ann created this course to help authors who feel called to share their stories. Authors who aren’t sure how to find the time to write what's on their heart or who lack the technical training to feel confident in doing so. Her website can be found at www.writingwithgrace.com, and with courses starting at $29, this may be a great resource for you.

Suite of Writing Options
Whether you are a fiction or nonfiction writer, whether you struggle with getting started, overcoming writer’s block, or gaining confidence, you may find the inspiration and motivation you need with Jerry Jenkins's suite of writing courses.

You may know the name Jerry Jenkins from the best-selling series Left Behind or The Chosen. As an author of more than two hundred books, he has courses available with monthly subscriptions, split payments, or lifetime access options. Courses include Anatomy of a Best-Selling Story, Fiction Jumpstart, Confidence Jumpstart, Thick-Skinned Manuscript Critique, and more. You can check out the wide array of courses at https://jerryjenkins.com/online-creative-writing-courses/.

Whether you choose to purchase individual courses or become an annual subscriber, this may be a resource to help move you past your current obstacles and into writing the book of your dreams.

Courses, Conferences, and Market Guides
If you haven’t heard of the Christian Writers Market Guide, it is a comprehensive list of large publishers, small publishers, editors, and conferences for the Christian writer. Having utilized it myself over the last two years, I can say that it is an incredibly helpful resource.

The producers of that resource, the Christian Writers Institute, also offer an array of training courses for Christian writers. These courses include skill-building, editing, marketing, and publishing for your book. Prices for each course range from $19–$299, depending on the topic, with instruction from professionals across the industry. You can find a complete list of courses available at https://learn.christianwritersinstitute.com/courses.

In addition, the Christian Writers Institute also offers a yearly conference for new writers in Wheaton, IL, allowing you to meet for three days of in-person encouragement and feedback. Professionals from publishing, editing, and acquisitions are available to talk with and learn from. If you find success with their writing courses, this may be a great next step in your writing journey.

Biblically-Based Community Writing
Compel is a biblically-based writing community through Proverbs 31 Ministries, designed by writers for writers. This resource will help you move past writer’s block to pen the words inside your heart.

Unlike the other resources listed here, Compel isn’t just a set of courses. Rather, it is a community that offers accountability and encouragement on your writing journey. With monthly, quarterly, or yearly memberships, you gain access to writing challenges, workshops, opportunities to submit your writing to leaders in the publishing industry, and training from industry professionals.

Founded by best-selling author Lysa Terkeurst Adams, Compel is designed to bring authors together throughout their writing journey. You can learn more about the membership pricing and learning pathways on their website at https://compeltraining.com/.

Conclusion: Honoring God with Your Message
God has given you the gift of words. A message. A story deep within your heart. Getting that message out, however, can be confusing, scary, or downright overwhelming.

But it doesn’t have to be so hard. There are wonderful resources available to Christian writers to help you grow your craft, overcome writer’s block, build your confidence, and find community.

The biggest regrets come from not trying. Don’t let fear hold you back from sharing the story God has uniquely equipped you to tell. Take the next step. Do the research. You may find God is leading you to the resources and community he created just for you.
